Rutland Water, England: trout bank access, boat permits and map

Plan a Rutland trout trip using the fishery’s numbered bank map, permitted areas, bank tickets and boat booking route.

Intermediate · Freshwater · Fly fishing
In this guide
  1. Read a bank access point on the map
  2. Match the ticket to the session

Choose bank or boat first. Anglian Water sells a trout bank ticket for fly fishing. A boat session has its own booking route. On the fishery page choose the option for the way you intend to fish.

Read a bank access point on the map

Examples of location numbers and the months covered by one seasonal restriction in the Anglian Water map. Check markings for each stretch.
The month strip decodes one entry in the map key. Look up the actual bank colour and date on the fishery map before choosing a place to fish.
  1. Find your intended stretch by number. For example, 23 is Normanton Frontage and 24 is Pontoon Bay. A name helps you locate a bank; permission comes from the rules and markings for that stretch.
  2. Match the bank to the map key for your date. The map distinguishes permanent bank exclusions from seasonal restrictions. Boat exclusions have a separate marking. Start with the map linked by the fishery if it has issued a newer edition.
  3. Trace the route from a marked car park. Look for barriers and locked gates. If you need an accessible route or have doubts about a boundary, ask the fishing lodge about that numbered point before buying your ticket.

Match the ticket to the session

Choose between the fishery’s available sporting and take-fish options and read the conditions on that permit. Check the national rod licence separately. For a boat, check availability, wind restrictions and the required safety briefing with the lodge. The trout and predator boat bookings have different terms.

Save the official map on your phone before setting off and check for notices on arrival. The fishery’s current rules and instructions take precedence over this planning guide.
